Studio Workload in an Architecture Practice
A practice sells drawing hours, and those hours are rarely counted. Time entered against a project shows where the studio went this week and which drawings are waiting.
What is recorded
What the numbers are read for
A principal reads hours by project against the stage being billed, which shows where a building is taking more studio time than the appointment allowed for. Draughtsmen see only their own sheets and hours. A project architect sees the team on that project. Nobody is ranked. Entry is kept short.
Where workload shows
What this page does not do
- It does not run payroll or calculate salary
- It does not mark attendance at the office door
- It does not rate one architect against another
- It does not set a fee from the hours recorded
Frequently asked questions
Is time entry compulsory for everyone?
That is for the partners to fix. Some practices record hours only on site visits and submission work.
Can hours be entered from a phone?
Yes. A short entry after the day’s drawing work is the usual way.
Does it link to a biometric device?
Only if you want attendance as well. The device make is checked during scoping, and that work is quoted separately.
Who sees another person’s hours?
Principals, and the project architect on that project. Everyone else reads their own entries.
