Home Exercise Programmes for Physiotherapy Patients

A therapist builds an exercise sheet from the clinic’s own list and adds sets, repeats and cautions. It goes to the patient on WhatsApp or on paper, and a copy is saved in the record.

Building a sheet

The clinic keeps a list of exercises it commonly uses. A therapist picks from it for each patient.

Exercise library

Each exercise has a name, a short description and a picture or a link to a video the clinic already has. The clinic adds its own.

Sets and repeats

The therapist sets how many times, how many rounds and how often in the day. A patient with a stiff shoulder gets a different count from one after a fracture.

Cautions

A line such as stop if the pain increases can be added to a single exercise or to the whole sheet.

Language

A sheet can be written in English, Kannada, Hindi or another language the clinic prepares, so a family member can read it too.

Reaching the patient

Patients get the sheet over WhatsApp, or printed at the desk before they leave. A copy is saved in the record. At the next visit the therapist sees what was given, and can change it.

Changing the programme as recovery moves

Early sessions may need gentle movements. Later sessions add strength and balance work. Each new sheet is dated, so the record shows how the home programme changed across the course of treatment.

What the clinic sets and what stays outside

  • The exercise list and the wording of cautions.
  • Whether sheets carry the clinic’s name and phone number.
  • Which languages the clinic prepares sheets in.
  • Whether the patient receives a new sheet at every visit or only at reviews.

What it does not do

It does not choose exercises or check that a patient does them correctly. Prescription remains the therapist’s decision. Tracking whether a patient followed the sheet at home is not part of this page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can we use our own photos and videos?

Yes. The clinic’s own pictures and video links go into the exercise library, and a therapist picks from them when building a sheet.

Is a sheet kept after the patient has been discharged?

Yes. Every sheet stays in the record with its date, so a returning patient can be given the same programme again.

Does the patient need an app?

No. The sheet is sent as a message or printed. The patient needs nothing installed to read it.

Can sheets be made for groups, such as a back care class?

Yes. A standard sheet can be saved as a template and given to each patient in the class, then adjusted for one person if needed.
