Referring Doctor Records for Physiotherapy Clinics
Many physiotherapy patients arrive on a doctor’s advice. This page records which doctor sent each patient, keeps the doctor’s notes with the case and sends a progress update back when the clinic chooses.
The referring doctor on every case
A doctor’s name is chosen from a list when the patient is registered. New names are added at the desk.
Who uses it
Reception records the doctor at registration. Therapists write the summary that goes back. Owners read the counts. A clinic with a post-surgery programme may use the summaries more than a clinic that mostly treats walk-ins.
What the clinic decides
- Whether summaries go to every referring doctor or only to some.
- Who approves a summary before it leaves the clinic.
- What the summary contains, and what is left out.
- Whether any arrangement with a doctor is tracked at all.
What it does not do
It does not calculate payments to referring doctors. Whether a clinic may share fees or gifts with a referrer is governed by professional rules, and the clinic confirms those with its own council or advisor.
Frequently asked questions
Can a patient come with no referral?
Yes. The doctor field can be left blank, and the patient is counted as a walk-in or as a friend’s recommendation if the clinic keeps that source.
Is a patient’s consent needed before a summary goes to a doctor?
That is for the clinic to decide under its own practice. The system can hold a consent note in the record so staff can check it.
Can a doctor log in and see the patient?
Not by default. Doctors receive updates from the clinic. Any direct access would be scoped separately and agreed with the clinic.
Does it work for company doctors and corporate referrals?
Yes. A referrer can be a company, an employer’s medical room or an insurer’s coordinator as well as an individual doctor.
