Library Issue and Returns in a School System
The library module keeps the book catalogue and records each issue and return against a student or staff member. A list of overdue books is available by class.
Catalogue, issue and return
Who works with it
The librarian keeps the catalogue and records issues and returns. Class teachers read the overdue list for their own section, which saves a walk to the library. Principals can open it when a question reaches them. What each login can open is agreed with the institution during implementation.
Why it sits in the same system
A separate library register has its own list of names. That list drifts from the admission records over a year. Here the student record is the source, so a child who moves up a class appears under the new class. The overdue list then reads correctly.
What the module does not do
- It does not fix fines or fine rules unless agreed with the school
- It does not hold the text of any book
- Cataloguing standards are for the librarian to decide
- Loading the existing catalogue is agreed during implementation
Frequently asked questions
Can staff borrow books too?
Yes. A book can be issued against a staff member as well as a student, and the return is recorded in the same way.
Does it list the overdue books for each class?
Yes. Overdue books are shown by class, so a class teacher can follow up with the children concerned.
How does the existing catalogue get in?
How the catalogue is loaded is agreed with the school during implementation. The format it is held in today decides the method.
Does it charge fines on late books?
Fines are not stated as a feature. If the library charges them, the rule is raised during scoping and agreed before set-up.
