A class teacher can message the parents of her section, or one parent about one child. Because the message comes off the student record, it goes to the number in the register and not to whoever is in a group. A parent who left the school is not still receiving circulars.

- An absence alert, from the attendance a teacher marked that morning
- A fee reminder, from the pending amount on that child’s ledger
- Exam dates, from the timetable the office published
- A circular, written once and sent to a class or to the school
Numbers need checking
Messages go by SMS or email to what the register holds. An old mobile number means a parent who hears nothing. Checking parent numbers at the start of the year is dull work, and messaging depends on it.

Do messages go out automatically?
No. Absence alerts, reminders and circulars are sent from the office and from the teacher’s screen. A person decides what goes to a parent.
Can a message go to the whole school by mistake?
No. The class or the school is chosen before anything is sent, and one child’s parent is a separate message from the teacher’s screen. Nothing goes out on its own.
Will this replace the class WhatsApp groups?
No. Those groups carry on as they do now. What changes is that the school’s own notices no longer depend on them.
