Timetable, Faculty Allocation, Rooms and Labs

The timetable assigns faculty, rooms and laboratory batches to each slot. Students, faculty, departments and room owners each get the view they need, and clashes are flagged before publication.

One timetable, kept current

Timetables drawn on paper are copied and corrected by hand, and the versions drift apart during the semester. Here the timetable is held once. Changes are made in one place. The portal shows the current published version.

What the timetable respects

Faculty availability

A faculty member who teaches in two departments cannot be assigned twice in the same slot, and each department sees the other’s commitment when it plans. Clashes are refused.

Rooms and capacity

The module compares section size with room capacity before the term starts, and it warns when a section is larger than the room assigned to it.

Laboratory batches

A section is split into batches for the laboratory, each with its own slot and instructor. Attendance follows the batch.

Continuous sessions

Workshops and drawing halls can be given consecutive hours, and the timetable places them together instead of scattering periods across the week.

Workload limits

Hours per faculty member per week are counted, and the same figure feeds the workload record that the college uses for its returns.

Shared facilities

A central computer centre or a language laboratory used by several departments is booked once. One booking, one owner.

The views people need

Student

Students see their own week on the portal, including the laboratory batch they belong to. No photograph of a notice board is needed.

Faculty member

Faculty see their classes across every section and department they teach, all in one place and in one week view.

Department

The department sees the full grid, with unassigned slots and any clash shown. Nothing is discovered at the classroom door.

Room

The person holding the keys sees what is scheduled in a given hall or laboratory for the day.

Changes during the semester

Substitutions

Leave cover is assigned in the module, and each substitution is recorded against the original slot so that attendance follows it.

Extra and make-up classes

These are scheduled against a free room, and the attendance taken counts toward the same subject as the class they replace.

Published version

One current timetable exists, so the copy on the portal is the current one.

Attendance

The register a faculty member opens is the one that the timetable says is running for that period. It cannot be picked wrongly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does it stop faculty and room clashes?

Yes. A faculty member or a room already committed in a slot cannot be assigned again, including across departments. Each department sees the shared commitment.

How are laboratory batches handled?

A section is split into batches, each with its own slot, room and instructor. Students see their batch, and attendance is marked per batch.

Can we schedule continuous sessions for workshops?

Yes. A course can require consecutive hours. The timetable places it that way and does not spread it across the week.

What happens when a class is rescheduled?

A substitution or make-up class is recorded against the original slot, and attendance counts toward the same subject. The published timetable stays the single current version.

Does it show faculty workload?

Yes. Hours per week for each faculty member come from the allocation. The same figure is used in the faculty workload record.
