Reagent, Kit and Consumable Stock for Pathology Labs

Reagents, kits, controls, tubes and needles are counted by lot and expiry. Short-dated lots are listed before they are wasted. A kit that expires unopened is stock thrown away, and a lot that was never recorded makes a questioned run harder to look into later.

What is counted

Reagents and kits

By item, lot number and expiry date, with the storage location noted.

Controls and calibrators

Tracked by lot, because a new lot often needs new control limits.

Consumables

Vacutainers, needles, slides, containers and labels, with reorder levels.

Receiving and use

Stock goes up when a supplier delivery is received with its lot and expiry. It goes down when a kit is opened at the bench. The lot in use for each test can be noted, which helps when a run is questioned later.

Ordering

Items below their reorder level appear on a list for purchase staff. Orders go to the supplier from that list. Nothing is ordered on its own.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does it count reagent use per test run?

Not automatically. Stock moves when a kit or pack is opened, which is how most labs count it.

Can it warn about kits near expiry?

Yes. Lots inside the window the lab sets appear on a near-expiry list.
