Test Master and Reference Ranges for Pathology Labs

The test master is the lab’s own catalogue. It decides what a report shows, how a value is flagged and which container a test needs. When the lab changes a kit or an analyser, the master is where the new range, unit or method is entered, and later reports follow it.

What each test holds

Name and code

The name printed on the report and the short code the desk types.

Units and method

Units of measure and the method or analyser used, printed where the lab wants them.

Sample type and container

Which sample and tube the test needs, so the right barcode labels print.

Reference ranges

Normal ranges by age and sex, and critical limits where the pathologist sets them.

Profiles and packages

A profile bundles tests that are ordered together, such as a liver function test. A package groups profiles for a health check. Each can carry its own price on each rate list.

Who approves changes

Ranges and methods change when a lab changes its analyser or kit. A range edit is recorded with who made it and when. The lab’s pathologist approves the master before it goes into use. Signed reports are not changed.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can we bring our current test list across?

Yes. The existing list is imported, then checked line by line with the pathologist before the first day.

Do you supply reference ranges?

No. Ranges come from the lab, its kits and its pathologist. The system holds and applies them.
