Manufacturing · Software for flexible packaging manufacturers

Follow every pouch and roll from film reel and ink lot to seal strength.

Flexible packaging converters print and laminate BOPP, PET, aluminium foil and kraft paper into rollstock, stand-up pouches and sachets for snack, detergent and shampoo brands. The software holds each structure, the film and ink lots behind a job, the gravure cylinders and the seal tests. Orders are planned by press and laminator, and dispatch follows the roll counts the packer expects.

At a glance

A flexible packaging plant buys film by the reel and sells printed rollstock or finished pouches. A job is a stack of layers, such as clear BOPP outside, reverse printed ink and a cast polypropylene sealant bonded with solvent free adhesive. Each layer has its own supplier, micron and lot. A snack brand judges the pack on shelf life and seal strength. A leaking seal is blamed on the converter the moment it reaches the filling line. Margins are thin.

Software for flexible packaging converters keeps the structure, the film reels and the print cylinders in one job. Planners see the gravure press, the laminator, the slitter and the pouch machine as separate queues. Quality staff see which laminate roll a peel test belongs to. Sales staff see the quoted structure and the cylinder status. The record travels with the roll. Questions get short answers.

How the work runs today

A brand owner sends artwork, a structure and a pack size, for example a three-layer laminate for a 250 gram stand-up pouch with a zipper. The estimator prices by film weight, ink coverage and press hours. Stores issues reels of PET, BOPP or polyethylene by micron and width, and the print room checks that the chrome plated gravure cylinders for the design are ready. The press prints, a laminator bonds the layers with adhesive, and the roll rests in the curing room. Then it moves on.

The slitter cuts the laminate to the width the customer’s form fill seal machine needs and winds it on three inch cores. Pouch lines form and seal the sides, gussets and bottoms. Quality staff test peel strength, heat seal strength, gauge and the coefficient of friction on samples. Residual solvent from the ethyl acetate used in inks is also checked. Results are written down. Each roll is labelled with its job number, length and core size, and the packing list reflects the same figures. Dispatch checks both.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for flexible packaging manufacturers without a proper system.

Layers lose their lot trail

A laminate is made of three or four films, each from a different reel. After bonding, the roll carries no note of which metallised PET, sealant film or adhesive batch it contains. A delamination complaint goes nowhere.

Cylinders and plates are untracked

Gravure cylinders wear with every metre printed. The length run per cylinder is guessed from memory, so a doctor blade scratch or a worn chrome layer shows only as a print defect. Then the customer calls.

Colour matching is repeated

Ink recipes and ink viscosity settings for a brand’s reds live with the press operator. A repeat order is matched again by eye, and the shade drifts between runs. Brands notice.

Curing time is not scheduled

Laminated rolls must rest in the curing room before slitting. When the cure date is not recorded, slitting starts early and tunnelling follows, or rolls sit idle for days. Both cost money.

Roll counts and cores differ per customer

Core size, outer diameter, unwind direction and splice marks are set by each customer’s filling line. A wrong roll is found when it jams the form fill seal machine in the middle of a shift on the customer’s side, and it comes back on a return note.

What the software does

What we would build for flexible packaging manufacturers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Structure and artwork library

Hold layers, micron, print design, cylinder number, eye mark position and unwind direction for each brand’s pack.

Film, ink and adhesive lots

Reels go in with micron, width and supplier lot, and every film, ink and adhesive batch stays linked to the laminate rolls it fed.

Press, laminator and slitter planning

Queue jobs on the gravure press, solventless laminator, slitter and pouch machine, with curing room hours held between steps.

Cylinder and plate register

Track each gravure cylinder with metres printed, re-chroming and rack position, and each flexo sleeve with its anilox pairing.

Bond, seal and friction tests

Enter peel strength, heat seal strength, gauge, dyne level and residual solvent results against the roll, and hold a failing lot.

Roll labels and dispatch

Roll labels carry core size, metres and number of splices, and the pallet’s packing list is printed with the load.

Solutions inside

The business modules flexible packaging manufacturers use most.

Each one is also available on its own, or inside a system built for you.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

    Support online

Fixes, changes and hosting handled remotely by the same team that built it.

Common questions

Questions flexible packaging manufacturers ask before they call.

Can a laminate roll be traced to each of its film layers?

Yes. Every laminating run records the reel lots of the outer film, inner film and adhesive. A finished roll opens to its layers, so a complaint about odour or delamination points to a lot.

Does it hold curing time between laminating and slitting?

Yes. The planner sets a cure period for each structure. The slitter queue then shows only the rolls that have rested long enough. The period itself is agreed with your own technical staff.

Can it follow gravure cylinders and flexo plates?

Yes. Each cylinder or sleeve has a register entry with metres printed and re-chroming history, and it is linked to the artwork and the customer.

How would our current structures be brought in?

Layer lists, web widths and artwork codes are entered by hand or brought over from job cards, and sales and the print room then check them. You watch sample pouch and rollstock orders run through first, before any live job moves over.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
