Manufacturing · Software for capsule manufacturers

Trace every capsule lot back to its gelatin batch, pigment and drying run.

Capsule manufacturers dip-mould empty hard shells from gelatin or plant-based polymer, then dry, trim, join, print and pack them for filling plants. The software holds each lot against its raw material batches, size, colour, moisture reading and inspection results. Each customer’s specification, the sorted rejects and the cartons sent out are attached to that lot.

At a glance

An empty capsule is a simple object that hides a long chain of dependencies. Gelatin or HPMC arrives by lot with its own bloom or viscosity figure, and the supplier’s analysis rarely sits beside the dipping record that used it. Pigments join by the kilogram. Weeks later a filler reports a locking problem on size 0, and someone must find which dipping run made those shells. That search is slow.

Management software for capsule plants keeps the solution batch, the dipping machine, the drying hours and the finished lot together. It follows one size and colour from gelatin receipt to the carton on the pallet, so a filler’s question has one place to look.

How the work runs today

A pharmaceutical or nutraceutical filler orders empty shells by size, colour, print and carton count, often against a specification of its own. The plant prepares a gelatin or plant polymer solution, adds colour, and holds it at temperature in a jacketed tank. Pins dip into the solution, rotate through drying kilns, and the dried shells are stripped, cut to length and joined cap to body.

Printing, sorting and visual inspection follow, with every printed lot tied to an artwork version, an ink lot and a sorter count that the quality head can open at any time. Samples go to the laboratory for moisture, disintegration, lock length and wall thickness. Rejected shells are counted by defect. Dents, splits and double caps are separate lines. Approved lots are packed in lined cartons with a lot label and a certificate of analysis. A filler may ask about a lot a year later. Every figure must still be findable.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for capsule manufacturers without a proper system.

Solution batches lose their ingredients

Gelatin lots, pigment lots and titanium dioxide are weighed into a batch sheet that sits in a binder at the mixing room. When a colour drifts, tracing it to a pigment lot means turning pages. It takes hours.

Drying conditions are not tied to the lot

Kiln temperature and humidity are logged on a chart or a clipboard. The finished lot of shells does not name the kiln run that dried it, so a brittle or soft batch cannot be linked to the humidity or the hours behind it. Cause stays unknown.

Customer specifications live in email

Each filler has its own limits for lock length, moisture and print legibility. These sit in attachments. Sampling goes by memory. The certificate may quote the wrong limit.

Rejected shells are counted loosely

Operators drop splits, dents, double caps and smudged prints into bins and count them when the sorter is emptied. Yield by size and defect is guessed. Nobody sees which pin set or machine produces the most dents. A worn set runs on.

Certificates are typed again for each shipment

A certificate of analysis is rebuilt from the laboratory notebook for every dispatch. Transcription slips creep in. A customer audit then finds two versions of one lot.

What the software does

What we would build for capsule manufacturers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Raw material lots

Receive gelatin, HPMC, colour and opacifier by supplier lot with the supplier’s analysis attached. Issue to a batch by weight, and block a lot that is under test.

Solution batch records

Record each solution preparation with its ingredient lots, weights, tank, temperature and viscosity readings. A batch that fails viscosity is held before it reaches the dipping machines.

Dipping and drying runs

Log each run by machine, pin set, size and colour, with kiln conditions and hours. Output of stripped shells is counted against the run.

Printing and sorting

Track ink lots, print artwork version and sorter output. Reject counts are entered by defect type, so dents, splits and misprints are read separately.

Laboratory results

Capture moisture, lock length, wall thickness and disintegration for each lot against the limits agreed with that filler. A result outside limit places the lot on hold. Each filler’s own limits show on screen while the sample is drawn.

Finished lots and cartons

Pack approved lots into cartons with lot labels, count shells per carton and hold stock by size, colour and print. Retained samples are logged with their shelf location.

Certificates and dispatch

Generate the certificate of analysis from recorded results, attach it to the packing list and raise the tax invoice in your own currency.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

Common questions

Questions capsule manufacturers ask before they call.

Can a shipped lot be traced to the gelatin it came from?

Yes. The lot links to its dipping runs, each run to a solution batch, and each batch to the gelatin and colour lots weighed into it. The chain reads in either direction.

Does it handle plant-based shells as well as gelatin?

Yes. HPMC and pullulan shells use the same batch, dipping and test records, with their own solution parameters and limits entered during set-up.

Can each filler have its own test limits?

Yes. Limits for lock length, moisture and print are stored per customer and size. The inspector sees the right set when the lot is sampled.

How does a capsule plant get a figure for the software?

Pricing depends on how many dipping machines you run, how many laboratory staff log in, and how much old lot history you bring over. A demo with your own capsule sizes comes before any figure is put on paper.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
