Manufacturing · Software for plastic packaging manufacturers

Follow each mother reel from blown film through gravure print and solventless lamination to the finished stand-up pouch.

A flexible packaging converter blows or casts film from LDPE, BOPP or nylon, then prints it on a flexo or gravure press. Lamination, slitting and pouch forming follow. Every mother reel splits into child reels. The software records structure, artwork revision, cylinder, reel weights and trim edge at each stage, then ties them to the customer order and the pallet.

At a glance

A stand-up pouch is built in layers. Film is blown, reverse printed, laminated to a cast polypropylene sealant web and slit to width before a bag machine sees it. Every step leaves a narrower reel.

Management software for plastic packaging makers follows the reel through extruder, press, laminator and slitter, and records artwork, structure and waste beside it. Describe the route your own reels take, from extruder to pouch machine, and each stage along it gets its own entry in the reel history.

How the work runs today

A brand owner sends artwork, a pouch size and a film structure, such as printed PET laminated to a polyethylene sealant layer with a press-to-close zipper. You quote from micron, width and colours. Artwork goes through a proof, then anilox rolls, photopolymer plates or gravure cylinders are made, and the customer signs a colour match on press before the run starts.

Reels move through the plant in stages. The extruder makes the base film, and a dyne pen checks corona treatment so ink will anchor. The press prints it, the laminator bonds it to the sealant with a two-part adhesive, and the slitter cuts the web to width on 76 mm cores. Edge trim is wound and weighed. Pouch machines then form side-seal, three-side-seal or stand-up bags. Operators weigh each reel, count pouches into cartons and note start-up film at every machine.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for plastic packaging manufacturers without a proper system.

Waste is lost between stages

Each machine reports its own scrap. Nobody adds extruder trim, press start-up film, laminator mismatch and slitter edge together, so the plant never learns the kilograms of resin bought to deliver one finished pouch order.

Reels lose their identity

A printed reel is slit into narrower child reels that go to different laminators and bag machines, and nobody writes down which went where. Numbers sit on masking tape. It peels.

Artwork versions are confused

Two revisions of a customer’s artwork exist. Plates are cut from one while approval was given to the other, and the press runs a full reel with a wrong barcode before anyone notices.

Cylinders and plates are not tracked

A gravure cylinder is costly. Rack position, re-chroming history and impression count sit on a shelf label that is rarely updated. A worn engraving then shows up only as ghosting on the printed film.

Order quantity is counted in the wrong unit

A customer orders pouches. The plant works in kilograms, running metres and reels, with a gusset allowance, a bottom seal and a zipper strip in between, none of which a pouch count shows. Converting is done on a pad. Two people rarely reach one figure.

What the software does

What we would build for plastic packaging manufacturers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Film structure and recipe

Store layers, micron, web width, adhesive type and coat weight for each pouch, with the resin grade, masterbatch and ink series it needs.

Artwork and cylinder register

Hold artwork revision, approval date, flexo plates or gravure cylinders, their owner, and the impressions run against each, with the barcode checked per revision.

Reel tracking

Number every mother reel and slit child reel, and record weight, running metres, core size and each machine it passed through, from extruder to bag line.

Stage-wise waste

Log scrap separately at extrusion, printing, lamination, slitting and conversion, then total it per order. The true film cost of a thousand pouches can then be read off beside the quoted figure.

Colour and treatment checks

Note ink match approvals, Delta E readings, dyne level, bond strength and heat-seal strength results against the reel, with the tester’s initials beside each.

Pouch count and pallet

Count pouches into cartons and pallets, then print labels that trace back to the child reel and its mother reel, even after a pallet is split.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

Common questions

Questions plastic packaging manufacturers ask before they call.

Is this for flexible packaging or rigid containers?

It is written for film and pouch converting. A rigid tub or bottle maker with a simpler flow, where no reel passes through several machines, can still use the quote, stock and dispatch pieces.

Can it follow reels once they are slit?

Yes. Each child reel carries its parent’s number. A pouch carton can then be traced back through slitter, laminator and press to the resin lot and the film extruded from it.

Can we track cylinders owned by customers?

Yes. A cylinder record shows its owner, rack position and impressions, and it warns when the count nears the limit recorded for that engraving. Wear shows before the print does.

How do we get a quote?

Tell us the machines and users involved, and you receive a written offer after a demo run of one of your own pouch types.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
