Manufacturing · Software for jig and fixture makers

Tie each fixture to its component revision, its proving readings and the buyer who signed it off.

Jig and fixture makers build milling workholding, drilling jigs, welding fixtures and checking gauges around a customer’s component, and each goes stale the day the part drawing moves. Here the component revision, fixture design, locators, clamps, hardened bushes, proving readings, buyer sign-off and each later modification stay on one record.

At a glance

A fixture exists to hold one component against its datums, so it goes stale the moment that component changes. Revision B of the bracket arrives, yet the fixture proved on revision A still sits in the customer’s cell, quietly clamping parts to the old print. No one rechecks the locators.

Management software for fixture makers keeps the part, the design and the proving readings on a single chain. Send us one recent job, and we trace that chain for it, from the buyer’s print through to the first accepted part.

How the work runs today

A customer sends a component drawing or a casting sample and asks for a fixture to hold it for milling, drilling, welding or inspection. The designer settles the locating faces and clamp positions, then releases drawings with a list of tooling plates, diamond pins, hardened bushes, toggle clamps and catalogue parts.

Base plates are sawn and milled. Locators are ground, hardened and given a blackening finish. Renewable liner bushes are pressed in, dowels are fitted, and the fixture is blued against a master block before any part touches it. A trial part is clamped, measured on a surface table or a coordinate measuring machine, and the readings go to the buyer for approval. Change is the norm here. When the component is revised, the fixture comes back for modification, and delivery includes a proving report and the drawing set.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for jig and fixture makers without a proper system.

Fixtures outlive the part revision

A fixture proved on revision A stays in service after revision B is released, and parts keep passing against the old profile tolerance until a customer rejects a batch. The shop floor never saw the new print.

Design changes pile up in the workshop

The buyer asks by phone for a locator moved two millimetres, the fitter scrapes it in at the bench, and the drawing is never updated. The next copy comes out different.

Validation has no record

A trial part was clamped and measured for flatness, parallelism and hole position, but the readings sit on a loose sheet. The buyer asks for proof and gets a promise.

Quotes miss the hours in fitting

Surface grinding, scraping, bluing and hand fitting of a locator take longer than the milling, yet the job is priced on plate weight and machine hours alone. The bench pays for it.

Repeat fixtures are redesigned

Two sister brackets need nearly the same fixture, but without a searchable library of past nests, cradles and clamp layouts the second one is drawn from zero. Hours are spent twice.

What the software does

What we would build for jig and fixture makers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Fixture projects tied to part revisions

Open each fixture against the customer’s component and its revision, and flag it the day the buyer releases a newer print. Sister parts can share a tombstone (the block that carries the plates) or a plate.

Design drawings and parts list

Hold the assembly drawing and a parts list of tooling plates, locators, diamond pins, swing clamps, hardened bushes and catalogue items, with what is bought out marked. Each line carries a heat-treat note.

Build stages and hours

Book sawing, milling, surface grinding, hardening, fitting and assembly hours per fixture, and set them against what was quoted. Fitting hours get their own line.

Validation and gauge records

Store the trial part readings, the stylus or height gauge used, who measured, and the buyer’s sign-off or the reason it was refused. Perpendicularity and repeatability results stay with the fixture.

Modification requests

Log each change with who asked, what moved, such as a locator shim or a wedge stop, and the updated drawing, so the fixture in use matches the file. A verbal request leaves a trace.

Standard parts stock

Count locator pins, drill bushes, toggle clamps, eccentric clamps, cradles, spatter shields, tooling plates and socket screws by catalogue code, and issue them against the fixture that needs them. Short stock shows before assembly.

Delivery packs and invoices

Assemble the as-built drawing set and proving report with the delivery note, then bill by stage where the order says so. The buyer’s file travels with the fixture.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

Common questions

Questions jig and fixture makers ask before they call.

Can one fixture be linked to several parts?

Yes, one fixture can hold several parts. A fixture that holds sister components lists every part and revision it was proved on, and shows which of them the buyer has signed off. A part with no readings stays marked open.

Does it store our design files?

It stores the drawing number, revision and approval, and links to the models and prints on your server. The design itself stays in your CAD software, so nothing gets redrawn.

How does the customer’s sign-off get recorded?

The approval is entered with date, name and comments on the fixture, beside the proving readings, and a refusal is logged the same way with the buyer’s stated reason.

We also make inspection gauges. Is that covered?

Yes, gauges are managed as fixtures with a calibration due date. A go and no-go plug gauge or a checking fixture is flagged for recalibration before its date lapses.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
