Manufacturing · Software for steel mills

Trace every heat, coil and bundle from scrap yard to the customer’s gate.

Steel mills melt, cast and roll material that ends up in buildings, vehicles and machines, so a buyer eventually asks which heat a bar came from. The steel mill software links each heat and lot to its chemistry, test results, yard location and dispatch. Certificates, orders and balances follow.

At a glance

A mill is a chain of departments that each keep their own sheet. Purchase buys scrap, ore or billets. The melt shop charges a furnace. The rolling mill makes bars, coils or sections. Quality tests samples. Dispatch loads trucks. Accounts bill.

Steel mill management software puts one heat or lot number through all of them. When a customer queries a certificate or a failed test months after delivery, the answer is already on the record, not rebuilt from six separate registers by three tired people.

How the work runs today

Sales staff take enquiries for grades, sizes and quantities, quote a rate and confirm an order against a delivery window. Purchase teams buy scrap, sponge iron, ferro alloys, electrodes and refractories from suppliers. Trucks arrive at the weighbridge and are weighed in. Samples go to the lab, and the lot is accepted or rejected before it ever reaches the yard or the furnace charge.

The melt shop plans furnace heats against the charge mix and records the tap. Billets or slabs move on. In the rolling mill, each run is planned by size and grade, and quality staff take samples at every stage to record chemistry, tensile strength and dimensions for the heat. Finished goods are tagged, weighed and stacked in a yard bay. Dispatch matches trucks to orders. Accounts raise invoices with test certificates attached, and credit teams chase balances from distributors, fabricators and contractors who buy on terms.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for steel mills without a proper system.

Heat numbers are lost between stages

The melt shop, the rolling mill and the yard each note a different reference. Matching a delivered bundle back to its heat means walking between three registers.

Certificates are typed by hand

A mill test certificate pulls chemistry from the lab sheet and sizes from the mill log. Copying figures across invites mistakes, and customers reject paperwork that does not match the steel on their own trucks.

Yield and scrap loss stay hidden

Charge weight goes in, saleable weight comes out, and the gap is explained at month end. Without per-heat figures, nobody sees which grade or shift loses most.

Yard stock is a rough estimate

Bundles are stacked by grade and size, but the count sits on a whiteboard. Orders are promised against stock that may already be committed to another buyer, and nobody finds out until the truck arrives.

Dispatch and billing run separately

A truck leaves with a gate pass while the invoice is raised later from a different weight. Disputes about tonnage follow.

What the software does

What we would build for steel mills.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Enquiries, quotations and orders

Log each enquiry by grade, section and tonnage, quote from your own price list, and commit orders only to dispatch slots the mill can meet.

Raw material purchase and weighbridge

Order scrap, alloys and consumables from approved suppliers, weigh each truck in and out, and accept or reject material after the lab result.

Heat and production planning

Plan furnace heats and rolling runs against open orders. Record the charge mix, tap weight and output for each heat.

Heat, coil and lot traceability

Give every heat, billet, coil and bundle a number that follows it through the mill, the yard and the invoice.

Quality tests and certificates

Record chemistry, mechanical tests and dimension checks against each heat, and print certificates in the format your customers ask for.

Yard stock and dispatch

Hold finished goods by bay, grade and size, reserve stock for orders, and match each truck to its order, weight and gate pass.

Invoicing and receivables

Invoice on the weight that left the gate, hold each buyer to a credit limit and terms, and read balances by customer starting with the oldest bill.

Solutions inside

The business modules steel mills use most.

Each one is also available on its own, or inside a system built for you.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, Tally reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

    Support online

Fixes, changes and hosting handled remotely by the same team that built it.

Common questions

Questions steel mills ask before they call.

Does it connect to furnace or rolling mill controls?

Not as standard. Operators enter heat data or load it from a file. A link to plant systems or weighbridge indicators is scoped separately, and what is possible depends entirely on your equipment and its data formats.

Can it print mill test certificates in a customer’s format?

Yes. Each certificate layout is drawn from the fields your lab already reports and built with your quality staff while the mill is configured. Which standards or customer formats apply is for your quality team to confirm.

Is it meant for integrated mills or small re-rollers?

Both can use it, though the set-up differs. A re-roller may skip melt shop modules and start from billet receipt. The first workshop decides the scope, after your plant layout and the departments that will use the system have been mapped out.

Can several plants or yards use one system?

Yes. Each plant or yard keeps its own stock and heats, and head office reads all of them together. Each country’s currency and tax rules apply to that plant’s own invoices.

What happens in the free technology audit?

We look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough to start. You get a report ordered by priority, and there is no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. The audit settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
