Manufacturing · Software for fastener manufacturers

Trace every bolt and nut box to its wire rod coil, heading run and plating batch.

Fastener makers turn wire rod into bolts, screws and nuts through drawing, cold heading, thread rolling, quench and temper, and plating. The software keeps coil heat numbers, die sets, property class tests and coating batches on one lot number. A carton traces back to its coil in a few clicks. Stock and drawing jobs share one trail.

At a glance

A fastener plant buys wire rod in coil. Drawing brings it down to blank diameter, then headers form the head and rollers cut the thread, and the parts are hardened, tempered and coated for stock or for a buyer’s drawing. Both routes share the same machines.

Each carton gets a lot number that reaches back through the plater, the furnace load and the heading run to the coil heat number. A field failure then points at one coil. Tensile, proof load, hardness and coating thickness stay with the lot. Nothing is looked up later. Your own bolt sizes, property classes and plating or galvanising routes decide how the trail is laid out.

How the work runs today

Orders come in two kinds. Catalogue hex bolts, set screws and flange nuts are made to stock in standard sizes and classes like 8.8 and 10.9, while special parts follow a customer drawing. Wire rod arrives in coil with a mill certificate for chemistry and grade, and it is annealed, pickled, phosphate coated and drawn to the blank diameter the header needs.

On the floor, a multi-station header shears blanks and forms heads in several blows, then thread rollers press the thread between flat or round dies. Hardening follows. Parts pass through a mesh-belt furnace and an oil quench, then a tempering oven that sets the property class. The lab checks Rockwell hardness, tensile strength and proof load against the class. Zinc flake or electroplate follows, with a hydrogen embrittlement bake where the class needs it. Optical sorting removes mixed, cracked or burred parts before the rest are counted into cartons and drums that are weighed, labelled and stacked against the order.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for fastener manufacturers without a proper system.

Mixed lots end up in a carton

Two sizes or two property classes run on neighbouring headers, and a sorting miss puts one in the other’s carton, so the customer finds the mixed bolts on the assembly line. Returns follow.

Tooling life is not recorded

Heading dies, punches and thread rolling dies wear at different rates, and setters change them by feel, so nobody knows pieces made per die set. Tooling cost per thousand parts is a guess.

Furnace results sit in the lab book

Hardness and proof load for a furnace load are written on a lab sheet. The carton label shows only a part number, which cannot be matched back to that load or its tempering temperature. The sheet stays in the lab.

Plating is a black box

Parts go out for plating and return with a delivery note listing only the count. Coating thickness and the bake record seldom reach the lot, so a salt spray complaint has nothing to check against. A complaint then goes unanswered.

Stock and special orders compete

Catalogue stock is made to a forecast while special drawings need the same header, so the planner decides on the day, usually by whoever shouts loudest. Die changes eat the shift.

What the software does

What we would build for fastener manufacturers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Wire rod and drawn wire stock

Coils arrive and get a record straight away: grade, heat number, and the scanned mill test report. Pickling, phosphate coating and annealing runs are logged, and drawn wire sits in the rack by diameter. Stock is never a guess.

Part catalogue and special drawings

Hold standard sizes and property classes beside customer drawings with tolerance, head style, thread pitch and coating, so a hex flange bolt and a special clevis pin share one catalogue.

Header and thread rolling log

Log machine, die set, pieces made and rejects for each heading and thread rolling run, so punch and die life per set is known and the setter changes tooling on evidence.

Heat treatment and strength tests

Record furnace load, quench oil, tempering temperature, Rockwell hardness, tensile and proof load per lot against the property class. Results stay with the lot.

Plating and coating

Send lots to the coating line with the process named, then log coating thickness, salt spray hours and bake data when they return. Records stay on the lot.

Sorting, packing and labels

Count sorted parts into cartons and drums on the scale, print labels with part, class and lot, and block a mixed-lot carton before it closes.

Dispatch and invoicing

Pack to the order, print the test certificate that belongs to the lot, and invoice what shipped. The paperwork matches the cartons on the pallet.

Each one is also available on its own, or inside a system built for you.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

    Support online

Fixes, changes and hosting handled remotely by the same team that built it.

Common questions

Questions fastener manufacturers ask before they call.

Can it tell standard stock from special parts?

Yes. Stock sizes are planned to reorder levels and drawing jobs to orders, so one header can serve both, and the planner picks the sequence knowing which die set each needs. Changeovers are visible.

Is the property class tracked per lot?

Yes. Hardness, tensile and proof load results are saved against the lot and printed on the test certificate. The classes you make, such as 8.8 or 10.9, are set up at the start.

Can we send plating out to a vendor?

Yes. Each lot leaves for the plater with a count and returns with a count. The coating thickness reading and embrittlement bake record are entered on the lot, where a salt spray complaint finds them.

Does it handle threads in metric and inch?

Yes. Metric and inch threads, pitches and lengths are entered as you stock them, whether M12 coarse or 1/2-13 UNC, and units follow your customer’s drawings.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
