Manufacturing · Software for packaging film manufacturers

Follow each film roll from resin blend and gauge reading to slit width.

Packaging film makers extrude, treat and slit plastic film that converters later print and form into packs. The software holds each recipe, resin and masterbatch lot, gauge profile, treatment level and roll weight against the extrusion run. Slitting plans, regrind returns and customer specifications sit beside them. A roll tag opens its whole history on one screen.

At a glance

A film plant turns polymer granules into thin, wide webs of polyethylene, polypropylene or multilayer film. Extruder screws melt the resin. A die forms a bubble or a sheet, cooling sets it, and winders collect it onto jumbo rolls. Small drifts in the blend or the die gap change thickness across the web. The customer finds out at the printing press. Thickness is the whole product.

Software for film extruders ties each jumbo roll to its resin blend, line settings and gauge readings. Slitters see which rolls to cut into which widths. Quality staff see the dyne level and the profile for a roll before it goes out. Sales staff quote from the same recipes the line runs, so the price a converter hears is built on the blend, gauge and width that will actually be extruded.

How the work runs today

A converter orders film by material, width, thickness in microns, core size and roll weight, and often asks for a treatment level so ink will hold. The planner sets the order on a blown film or cast film line and checks stock of virgin resin, linear grades and colour or slip masterbatch. A recipe sets the blend by percentage of each component. The operator loads hoppers, starts the extruder and tunes the die gap, air ring and haul-off speed until the gauge settles.

A scanner or hand micrometer reads thickness across the web, and corona treatment then brings the surface to the dyne level the converter asked for before winders start. Winders produce jumbo rolls that are weighed and tagged. Slitters cut them to customer widths on smaller cores. Trim and start-up film go to the granulator, and regrind goes back into approved blends. Waste is counted, not guessed. Rolls are wrapped, palletised and sent with a certificate of analysis where the customer asks for one. Then the truck leaves.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for packaging film manufacturers without a proper system.

Recipes live with the operator

The blend that worked last month is remembered by the shift lead who ran it. Memory is not a recipe book. A change of shift brings a different gauge profile from the same order.

Gauge readings stay on the line

Thickness profiles are read at the scanner and thrown away or pasted into a sheet. A customer who complains of streaks on the press has nothing to compare against.

Regrind is blended by feel

Trim from the granulator is returned to the hopper in whatever share the operator chooses. The share is a guess. Nobody can say how much recycled content a roll contains.

Jumbo rolls lose their parentage

After slitting, narrow rolls carry a new tag. The link to the jumbo roll, its resin lot and its treatment reading breaks at the slitter.

Specifications are rewritten per order

Each converter specifies width, gauge tolerance, dyne level and core in its own email. The next order starts from a search through the mailbox.

What the software does

What we would build for packaging film manufacturers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Recipes and resin blends

Hold each film recipe with its resin grades, masterbatch, slip and anti-block shares, and the line settings that produced a good roll.

Resin and masterbatch lots

Granules arrive in bags or silos, so book them with supplier lot, melt flow value and certificate, and tie each lot to every run that drew on it.

Extrusion run records

Log line, recipe, die gap, speed and operator for each run, with start-up scrap and the jumbo rolls produced.

Gauge and treatment readings

Capture thickness profile, dyne level and haze readings for each roll, and compare a complaint roll with its own record.

Slitting plans and roll tags

Plan jumbo rolls into customer widths to cut trim, and print a tag for each narrow roll showing the jumbo it came from.

Regrind and trim accounting

Weigh trim, record regrind returned to the hopper by recipe, and show the recycled share of each blend.

Customer specifications and certificates

Keep width, tolerance, dyne level and core size per converter, and issue a certificate with the readings for each delivery.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

Common questions

Questions packaging film manufacturers ask before they call.

Can a narrow roll be traced to its jumbo roll and resin lot?

Yes. The slitter tag names the jumbo roll. The jumbo roll opens to its recipe, the resin and masterbatch lots used and the gauge and treatment readings taken. A complaint roll therefore has a complete history.

Does it record regrind?

Yes. Trim weights and regrind returned to the hopper are logged by recipe. A roll shows the recycled share your operators actually used, and your quality staff set the limits. Regrind is weighed, never estimated.

Can it take readings from the line scanner?

Operators can type the numbers in, or a file from the scanner can be loaded when the run ends. Connecting a particular scanner for live feed is separate integration work, agreed at the first workshop.

How do we start with current recipes and orders?

Your recipe sheets, converter specifications and open orders go in first, and the line leads read them back for errors. A demo on sample blown and cast film runs comes before the proposal.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
