Manufacturing · Software for offset printers

Count plates, ink, make-ready sheets and impressions for every offset run.

Offset printers image plates, set up sheetfed or web presses and run long jobs where make-ready waste and ink matter. The software records plates made, press sheets issued, spoilage, impressions, ink used and the colour approval for each run. Job costs reflect what the press consumed, not the estimate.

At a glance

Offset printing rewards long runs and punishes careless set-up. Plates are imaged, the press is made ready, and a few hundred sheets are spent before the first good one comes off the delivery. On a short job that spoilage is most of the cost. On a long one it is still real money.

Offset printing software holds the plates, the sheets issued and returned, the ink and varnish used and the impressions counted on each press unit. It ties all of them to the job, so cost per thousand is calculated from what the press consumed, press unit by press unit, rather than from the figure in the estimate.

How the work runs today

A job arrives as an approved proof, a sheet size and a run length. Prepress outputs plates for each colour and checks them against the proof. Stores issue press sheets with an allowance for make-ready and spoilage. The press crew hangs the plates, sets the ink keys and pulls sheets until the colour bar matches the approved proof, and only then does the run begin.

The operator logs impressions, sheets spoiled and the time lost to wash-ups and plate changes. A perfecting press prints both sides in one pass, while other work waits for the first side to dry before the second side or varnish. Counted stacks move to cutting and folding. Leftover paper is returned and counted. Ink tins are noted against the job.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for offset printers without a proper system.

Make-ready waste is guessed

Estimators allow a standard number of sheets for each colour and each press. Real spoilage varies with the job. Nobody can compare the allowance with what was burned, because the burned count is never written down.

Plates are remade without a record

A scratched plate or a late correction triggers a remake. The plate count never reaches the job cost, so a four-colour order that needed six extra plates still shows the original figure and a healthy margin.

Ink use is spread across all orders

Tins are drawn from stores for the week and charged by habit, though a heavy solid on a large sheet costs far more than a light line job. The price does not show it.

Press sheets and finished sheets are confused

Stores issue sheets to the press and the bindery counts what arrives, but the difference is blamed on each department in turn until the next job starts.

Press downtime has no cause

A press stops for blanket washing, a paper jam or a plate change, and the stoppage is just a gap in the output with no reason noted.

What the software does

What we would build for offset printers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Plate register

Log plates imaged per job and colour, with remakes and the reason, and tie each set to the proof it was checked against.

Press sheet issue and return

Issue sheets with a make-ready allowance, record spoilage as it happens, and return leftover stock with its count so the stores balance matches what the press used.

Impression counts per press unit

Record impressions, speed and running time on each press and unit, from make-ready through the run, so a worn unit or a slow changeover shows in the figures.

Ink, varnish and consumables

Draw ink tins, varnish and wash-up solvent against the job, then read the usage per thousand impressions beside the quantity the estimator expected to be needed.

Colour approval

Store the signed proof and the press sheet marked OK, with the operator and time of sign-off, so any later colour dispute has one sheet to point at.

Press downtime log

Note each stoppage against a reason such as plate change, blanket wash or paper jam, so the gaps in output finally carry a cause the foreman can act on.

Job costing from actuals

Compare estimated and actual sheets, ink, plates and press hours, and show the margin after each run, so the next quote starts from what the press really consumed.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

Common questions

Questions offset printers ask before they call.

Can it separate make-ready sheets from run sheets?

Yes. The operator marks the start of the good run, and every sheet spent before it counts as make-ready. The two figures appear separately against the job, beside the allowance that the estimator used when quoting.

Does it handle both sheetfed and web presses?

Yes. Sheetfed jobs count sheets and impressions. Web jobs count metres or reels. Each press has its own units and set-up allowance.

Can plates be linked to the approved proof?

Each plate set is recorded with the proof it was checked against. A remake is logged with its reason and cost, so a corrected file is visible on the job.

How is it priced?

Quoting turns on how many presses run and how many people need logins, so we first walk one of your recent runs through a demo. The quote is written afterwards.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
