Manufacturing · Software for label manufacturers

Keep every label job tied to its face stock, adhesive, die and print proof.

Label manufacturers print self-adhesive labels on reels for food, drink, chemical, logistics and retail customers. The label manufacturer software holds each label specification, the face stock and adhesive lots, the rotary dies and the print proofs. Jobs are planned by press, and each roll is counted, wound and labelled for the customer’s applicator.

At a glance

A label printer sells small flat items by the million, wound on cores. The material is a sandwich of face stock, adhesive and a silicone liner, and each combination behaves differently on the press and on the customer’s applicator. Narrow web presses print, varnish, foil and die-cut in one pass, so a fault at any station travels with the web until someone stops the press. A single wrong barcode ruins an entire reel. Reprints cost the printer twice.

Software for label printers keeps the specification, the material lot and the die with the job from proof to roll label. Planners see each press and its inline stations as one queue, and prepress staff see which artwork and which barcode data were approved for the job. Quality staff see which inspection result belongs to which reel, and sales staff see what was quoted for a repeat order, the material used and the die.

How the work runs today

A customer sends artwork, a label size, a material and a quantity, such as a food label on a freezer-grade adhesive or a shipping label on thermal stock. Prepress prepares plates or a digital file, proofs the colour and checks barcodes and variable data. The estimator prices by material area, press time, die and finishing. Stores issues reels of face stock by width and adhesive type, and the planner books the flexo or digital press that has the stations for varnish, foil and die-cutting.

The press prints, varnishes or foils, die-cuts and strips the matrix waste in a single pass, while the operator watches the web for drift. Operators inspect the web for colour, register and barcode grade, and an inspection station or camera rejects any fault it finds before the roll is rewound. Then the roll is labelled. Rolls are rewound onto cores with the unwind direction and labels per roll that the customer’s applicator needs. Core sizes differ by customer. Every splice is marked on the roll. Counts are checked before labelling. The packing list carries the job number, the quantity per roll and the roll count. Applicators reject rolls wound the wrong way.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for label manufacturers without a proper system.

Material combinations are unrecorded

A label is face stock, adhesive and liner chosen for a surface and a temperature. The reel lot used rarely reaches the job sheet, so an adhesion complaint has no starting point. Complaints stall without a lot number.

Rotary dies are unlogged

Magnetic and solid dies wear with every thousand metres. Which die ran which job, and how many metres it has left, is a guess. Worn dies fail without warning.

Barcode and variable data errors

Serial numbers, lot codes and barcodes are printed from a data file, and a wrong file or an unchecked barcode grade ruins a reel that is already wound. Reprints follow at the printer’s cost.

Colour approval is repeated

A brand colour is matched again on every reorder. The approved sample is in a folder, and the operator mixes by eye. Brand owners notice the difference.

Roll specifications vary by applicator

Core size, outer diameter, unwind direction and labels per roll are set by the customer’s applicator, and a wrong roll is rejected on arrival after the freight is paid. Rejected rolls become waste.

What the software does

What we would build for label manufacturers.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Label specification library

Hold size, shape, material, adhesive, colours, die and unwind direction for each customer’s label.

Proof and data approval

Record each print proof, barcode grade check and variable data file approved for a job.

Face stock and adhesive lots

Reels go in by width, face material and lot, and every lot stays tied to the rolls printed from it.

Press and finishing queue

Queue flexo and digital presses with their inline varnish, foil and die-cut stations.

Rotary die register

Track each die with metres run, sharpening and storage position.

Roll counts, labels and dispatch

Rewind to the core size and label count the customer’s applicator needs, stick on the roll label and print the packing list.

Each one is also available on its own, or inside a system built for you.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

    Support online

Fixes, changes and hosting handled remotely by the same team that built it.

Common questions

Questions label manufacturers ask before they call.

Can a roll be traced to its face stock and adhesive lot?

Yes. Each press run records the reel lot it drew from. A roll opens to the material, the die and the operator who ran it, so an adhesion complaint starts from a lot.

Does it check barcode and variable data jobs?

Yes. The data file and barcode grade check are filed with the job, and a job whose data is not approved never reaches the press queue. The pass grade for each customer is agreed with your inspectors.

Can it follow rotary dies?

Each die has a register entry with metres run and sharpening history, and the planner sees whether a die is near the limit your tooling staff set.

How would our label specifications be brought in?

Sizes, face materials, dies and artwork codes are entered by hand or brought over from job files, and prepress and sales then check them. Sample label orders are run on screen first, and the costing is drawn up later.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
