Manufacturing · Software for precision grinding shops

Follow every part from stock allowance to final gauge reading.

Customers judge a grinding shop by microns, so readings taken at the machine carry as much weight as the metal. Gauges matter. The software for precision grinding shops holds the drawing revision, the stock left on each blank, the wheel used and the gauge readings against every job. Outside processes and customer lots are tracked beside them, and the delivery note is built from what was actually passed.

At a glance

Parts arrive from turning shops and heat treaters with a few hundredths of stock left on them. Cylindrical, surface, centreless and internal grinders take that last layer off, and the dimension that comes out is the one the customer inspects first.

Records for precision grinding shops therefore centre on the part, its allowance and its readings. The work is repeat jobs with fine tolerances, so the shop needs to find last year’s wheel, dress setting and first-off reading in seconds. Each grinder, each gauge and each customer drawing you hold gets its own place in the record.

How the work runs today

A drawing arrives calling for a ground diameter, a surface finish and a runout limit, with a request to quote five hundred pieces. You estimate from the stock allowance, the number of passes, the setup on the chosen grinder and the wheel wear. The quote must also allow for an outside heat treatment step ahead of grinding. Gauging time at the end counts too, along with the minutes spent dressing the wheel between passes on a long shaft or a wide plate.

On the floor, a lot of blanks comes in from the heat treater with a hardness certificate. The operator mounts the part between centres or loads it into the chute of a centreless machine, sets the wheel, dresses it and takes first-off readings. The inspector signs the readings off. Then the lot moves. Sizing continues, the wheel is dressed again at a set interval, and the finished lot is gauged, cleaned, oiled and packed with the inspection sheet.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for precision grinding shops without a proper system.

Allowance on the blank is not recorded

A lot arrives from heat treatment with more distortion than the drawing allowed for. The grinder finds out at the machine. The extra passes are never written against the job, so the next quote repeats the old assumption.

Wheel and dress settings live in the operator’s head

The grit, bond, wheel diameter and dress compensation that held a tolerance last time sit with one operator. When that operator is on leave, the setup is guessed again and the first pieces scrap.

Gauge readings are on loose sheets

The operator jots micrometer and air-gauge figures on a pad by the grinder, and someone retypes them into the inspection report afterwards. Some never make it. The customer asks for the full set.

Gauges go past calibration

Master rings, plug gauges and thread checks have due dates that sit in a separate register. A reading taken with an overdue gauge is a reading the customer can reject.

Outside steps hold up the job

Parts go out for heat treatment, nitriding or chrome plating and return on no fixed day. The grinding slot was booked on the assumption they would be back, and the grinder stands idle.

What the software does

What we would build for precision grinding shops.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Quotation by operation

Price each part from its allowance, number of passes, grinder type, setup time and gauging time, then keep every revision beside the drawing number.

Incoming blank check

Record count, hardness certificate and measured allowance when blanks arrive, so distortion is noted before the first pass and not discovered on the machine.

Wheel and dress log

Note the wheel specification, mounted diameter, dress interval and compensation for each job. Repeat orders open with the setting that worked. No guessing. The operator just reads it.

Trial-piece and sample gauging

Readings are typed in at the bench for every feature and sample. With the inspector’s signature added, the report prints straight from them.

Gauge calibration register

Hold each gauge with its due date and last result. A job cannot be signed off against an overdue instrument without the supervisor seeing the flag.

Lot and heat number trace

Supplier lot, heat number and heat-treatment batch follow the part to dispatch. A shaft rejected in the customer’s assembly leads straight to the blanks it was cut from.

Outside process tracking

Book out parts for heat treatment, plating or coating, and check which are away, at which vendor and for how many days before a grinder slot is promised.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

    Support online

Fixes, changes and hosting handled remotely by the same team that built it.

Common questions

Questions precision grinding shops ask before they call.

Can it hold our wheel and dressing settings?

Yes. Wheel grade, mounted diameter and dress compensation are stored per part and per machine. A repeat order shows the last setting used, and the operator can change it with a reason.

Does it replace the inspection report we send customers?

It builds the report from readings entered at the machine. The layout follows your current format. A customer who insists on its own report template gets it built during implementation, checked by your inspector.

We run only a few grinders. Is this too much?

A shop with a single bench grinder and a handful of regular jobs can manage on paper. Add subcontract steps and several customers’ revisions, and the records earn their place.

Can we see the cost of scrap on a part?

Yes. Rejects are logged against the job with a reason, such as undersize, burn or taper. Reports then show scrapped pieces, wheel use and time lost by part number.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
