Manufacturing · Software for iron foundries

Give every iron casting a heat number, a pattern and a test bar.

Iron foundries melt grey or ductile iron, pour it into sand moulds, shake out, fettle and often machine the casting. Foundry software holds the heat, charge, pouring temperature, pattern, test bar and rejection cause against each casting, with the customer’s drawing beside them.

At a glance

Foundry work begins with a charge sheet and ends with a casting stamped with a heat number. In between come a pattern, a core, a mould, a ladle of molten iron and a sand shakeout. A flaw such as shrinkage, a sand hole or low nodularity often shows up long after pouring. The record of the heat is the only way back to the cause.

Iron foundry software puts the heat, the charge, the pattern and the test results on one casting record. It links moulding, melting, fettling and quality. Each heat record mirrors your own furnace practice, moulding line and fettling shop, and prints in the certificate layout your customers ask for.

How the work runs today

An order for pump bodies, brake drums, manhole frames or machine bases arrives with a drawing, a grade and a quantity. The planner picks the pattern from the rack, checks that cores can be made in time and works out how many moulds fit into the day’s heats. In the melting bay the crew weighs a charge of pig iron, steel scrap and returns, and a spectro sample decides if the carbon and silicon are right. For ductile iron, magnesium treatment and inoculation follow.

Moulds are made on the line, cores are set, and the ladle pours at the checked temperature. After cooling the casting is shaken out, the gates are cut, and the casting goes to fettling and shot blasting. A test bar from each heat goes to the lab for tensile and hardness. Rejects are sorted by cause. Good castings are heat treated or machined, then packed.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for iron foundries without a proper system.

The charge is recorded after the pour

Pig iron, steel scrap and returns are weighed into the furnace, yet the sheet only gets filled in once the shift is over. Corrections are written from memory.

Heat numbers do not reach the casting

A heat number is chalked on the flask. It is lost at shakeout. Castings from different heats sit together in a bin.

Patterns wear out unseen

Patterns and core boxes are used for hundreds of moulds. Nobody knows when a pattern last went to the pattern shop, so wear shows up first as a casting that will not fit its drawing.

Rejections have no cause

Sand holes, shrinkage and cold shuts are counted as one number. Each department blames another. The sand plant points at the melting bay, the melting bay at the moulding line, and the moulding line at the sand.

Test bars are not tied to the heat

Tensile and hardness results sit in the lab register. When a buyer wants a certificate, someone has to dig through paper to rebuild the heat.

What the software does

What we would build for iron foundries.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Heat and charge record

Record the charge by material, the spectro result, any treatment and the pouring temperature for every heat.

Pattern and core box register

Hold patterns by customer and part, count moulds made, and flag a pattern that is due for repair.

Moulding and pouring log

Track moulds made, cores set and metal poured per heat, so each casting lot names its heat.

Test bar and certificate

Save tensile, hardness and microstructure results against the heat and print a material certificate.

Fettling and rejection causes

Count rejects by cause, such as sand hole, shrinkage or cold shut. Show which line or heat produced them.

Machining, heat treatment and dispatch

Take castings through machining or outside heat treatment and print the packing paperwork when they are ready to ship.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

    Support online

Fixes, changes and hosting handled remotely by the same team that built it.

Common questions

Questions iron foundries ask before they call.

Does it cover grey and ductile iron?

Yes. Grades are held with their chemistry and test rules. Ductile iron adds treatment and nodularity fields to the heat, so the magnesium step is recorded beside the pour.

Can a casting be traced to its heat?

Yes, when the heat number is cast or stamped on the part, or when the lot is kept by flask or tray. That number leads straight to the charge, the test bar and the spectro reading taken at tapping.

Can material certificates be printed?

Yes. Chemistry, tensile and hardness values print in the layout the customer expects. The wording follows rules your own quality staff set.

Does it manage patterns?

Yes. Each pattern has a mould count, repair log and storage position, so the pattern shop knows which pattern is due for repair and which rack it sits on.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
