Manufacturing · Software for steel foundries

Trace every steel casting back to its heat, its pattern and its test coupon.

A steel foundry sells castings, but the customer also buys the paperwork that proves what was poured. The software ties each casting to its heat number, ladle analysis, normalising charge and magnetic particle result. Material test certificates are drawn from those records, so nothing is retyped.

At a glance

A steel casting leaves the foundry with a heat number cast or stamped on it. Behind that number sit a charge of scrap and ferro-chrome, a spectrometer reading, a tapping temperature, a teapot ladle pour and a cycle in a shared furnace. When a buyer reports a crack, all of it is asked for at once.

Steel foundry software holds those records against the casting and the pattern. It follows the pour from the induction furnace through shakeout, arc-air gouging, weld repair, radiography and the heat treatment furnace, to a final certificate that quality staff can review line by line. How the work runs today

The pattern shop and the moulding line receive an order for valve bodies, pump casings, crusher jaws or excavator bucket teeth. The planner books the wooden pattern, the core boxes and a slot on the melt schedule. Moulds are rammed in green sand or bonded with furan resin, cores are set, and the box is closed and weighted before tapping.

The melt shop charges scrap, returns and ferro-alloys into the furnace, takes a spoon sample for the optical emission spectrometer and corrects the chemistry before tapping. After shakeout, gates and risers are cut off and the casting is fettled. Weld repairs, normalising, ultrasonic checks and the keel block tensile result all end in one certificate.

Where it breaks

What goes wrong for steel foundries without a proper system.

Heat numbers live on a whiteboard

The melt shop writes the heat number and ladle chemistry on a board and a pad. By the time the certificate is typed, the casting and its heat are linked from memory.

Charge mix is costed after the fact

Mild steel scrap, runner returns, turnings and ferro-manganese go into the furnace by the tonne. The cost of a heat is worked out later. Often it is not.

Weld repair is not counted

A casting that comes back from fettling with a sand inclusion gets gouged, welded, ground and re-inspected. Each loop costs electrodes, hours and furnace time, yet the second pass is rarely written down. Margin leaks away there.

Heat treatment charges mix orders

Castings from several customers share one furnace load. The chart recorder paper sits with the operator, not with the job, and the certificate needs it. Few can find it.

Test coupons drift from their castings

Keel blocks and attached coupons are cut and sent to the lab. Tensile and Charpy results come back on a separate sheet and are matched to the casting by hand.

What the software does

What we would build for steel foundries.

Named the way your team already talks about the work. We start with whichever part the audit shows is costing you most.

Pattern and core box register

Hold each pattern with its customer, drawing revision, shrinkage allowance, chills, core boxes and storage rack, and count the moulds made from it.

Melt and heat log

Record the furnace, the charge, ladle additions, aluminium deoxidation, tapping temperature and spectrometer reading for every heat, and link each heat to the moulds it fills.

Moulding and pouring schedule

Plan flasks by pattern and pour date, with core readiness, sleeve and riser sizes, and the heat that will fill them.

Fettling, repair and inspection

Log gate and riser cutting, grinding, each weld repair and every magnetic particle, ultrasonic or radiographic result against the casting number.

Heat treatment charges

Build furnace loads from castings of different orders, and attach the chart reference for the normalising, water quench or temper cycle.

Material test certificates

Draw heat chemistry, tensile and impact results and heat treatment details into the EN 10204 style certificate layout each buyer asks for.

Costing by heat and casting

Set tonnes charged against tonnes shipped, so pouring yield and cost per casting are read from the heat.

How it works

How the work runs from Bengaluru for your city.

  1. 1

    The audit, by call

A screen-share and a look at the sheets, accounting reports and WhatsApp groups your team uses. No travel needed.

  2. 2

    A written proposal

Scope, what we build first and the cost, agreed in writing before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Build in short rounds

Working screens shared every few weeks. Your team tests them from your own office.

  4. 4

Go-live, in person when it helps

For data migration and training we can come to your city. Travel is agreed in advance.

  5. 5

    Support online

Fixes, changes and hosting handled remotely by the same team that built it.

Common questions

Questions steel foundries ask before they call.

Can the spectrometer feed the heat record?

Not out of the box. Lab staff key the figures or import the instrument file against the heat, and a direct link can be scoped later if the lab asks for it.

Can one heat feed several customers?

Yes. A heat is poured into moulds for different orders, and each casting keeps its heat number. A certificate for any customer reads only its own castings.

Who decides the certificate format?

Your quality staff. Buyers differ on acceptance rules and standards, so each customer gets its own certificate layout, checked by the people who sign it.

Is a small steel foundry too small for this?

A shop pouring a few heats a week still gains from linking heat to casting. The scope is trimmed to the records you actually keep.

What happens after I share my requirements?

An engineer reads what you send and replies within one business day. We then look at the software, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups your business runs on today and write down what works, what slows your team down and what is missing. A demo login, a screen-share or a few screenshots are enough. You get a short written summary ordered by priority, with no obligation to hire us afterwards.

How much will the software cost?

We don’t publish a price, because it depends on what the system has to do. That first review settles the scope, and the cost goes into a written proposal before any work starts.
